Fall is one of my favorite times to travel. I love the weather, fashion, views, and so much more. I try to plan a quick weekend getaway each year during this season. Normally around this time, I travel to Door County for a weekend of wine and quality time. This time, I switched it up a bit! My boyfriend and I went somewhere brand new to the two of us, hidden in our home state. We drove about three hours south to explore Lake Geneva! We have both heard great things, and we were excited to visit somewhere new.

The Hotel

We stayed at the Cove of Lake Geneva, a lakefront resort. We were a smidge late in booking this trip, which was part of why we could not go to Door County. Hotels fill up quickly this time of year! So while we were researching where to stay in Lake Geneva, we found the Cove with one room left! The only room left was the Anchor, a private room suite, which was perfectly fine by us! We had our own living room area with a fireplace next to a kitchenette. We also had a balcony overlooking the pool--which would have been a gorgeous view if the pool wasn't already drained! We spent some time by the indoor pool and hot tub, of course. But if you're traveling in the summertime, there is a large outdoor pool and splash pad! Nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it!

Our Experience

We spent a lot of our time shopping. There were so many cute shops that had something for everyone. I got an adorable scarf from Bags & Bangles and a shacket from Jayne, perfect for the chilly lake breeze. G got a new hat from Clearwater Outdoor. And of course, we had to get Pepper some toys from Paws For Treats.

Despite the cooler temps we still wanted the chance actually to BE on Lake Geneva. So, we booked two tickets for the Lake Geneva Cruise Line! We went on a one-hour tour around the lake, learned about the history, saw some gorgeous houses, and of course, looked at the beautiful lake views. If you're looking to explore the lake, this is a great opportunity! There were plenty of tour options available for adults only with cocktails or kid-friendly tours. There were also longer time slots; however, we went with a quick one to fit in all our activities!

We also decided to venture slightly out of the city limits to a town called Elkhorn so that we could stop by a pumpkin patch/apple orchard. We loved everything about the Apple Barn! It was truly a one-stop-shop for all the fall things! They had live music outside playing Halloween-themed songs, pick your own apple orchard and pumpkin patch, hayrides, yummy food trucks, a coffee camper with fresh coffee and apple cider, a gift shop, AND wine tasting! When I say they had everything, I mean it. This was such a fun spot, and I'm so glad we took the time to drive a little out of town to make it happen.

The Restaurants

We ate at so many delicious restaurants while we were there. Arguably I think the food was our favorite part of the trip! Our first meal of the trip was at Lake City Social, which was a part of our resort. We stopped in here a couple of times because it was so convenient to grab a drink or an appetizer from our hotel!

For Friday night's dinner, we went to Oakfire. G has rave reviews about this place and talked about how good it was the whole weekend. I'm a sucker for homemade pizza. The bruschetta was super good too! I got the pepperoni pizza with honey glaze and G got sorrento pizza. We got a perfect table outside by the fire pits with a great view of the lake and sunset.

For Saturday morning breakfast we went to Speedos Harborside. It was super good and a great way to start our morning. This spot also had great views of the lake.

Lunch was at Popeyes (no, not the chain!). This was such a fun place and BIG! We sat on the upper level. We both thought we needed a cocktail at this point in the day so we both got Mai Tais! To eat, I got the Buffalo Chicken Wrap with Lobster Bisque Soup which was perfect for a chilly day. G got "the perfect pair" which he said was amazing!

Saturday night dinner was probably my favorite part of the whole trip. We made reservations at The Baker House. This spot was so elegant with a live jazz band, delicious entrees, and yummy cocktails. We had the most beautiful table with views of the garden and lake. G had the steak and I had the lobster which was both to die for! After dinner, we walked around the garden that was lit up with lights for the night and sat by the firepits.

Sunday morning brunch was at Harry's. It was such a nice way to end our trip! We had the best weekend and it was so hard to leave Sunday. We'll definitely be back for another weekend hopefully soon.

I am not sponsored by these brands, no one is paying me for positive statements about these products or venues. However, I do receive commission when you shop on LTK. These are all my honest opinions.
